God’s timing is impeccable. Many of us miss God’s blessings because we lean on our own understanding. The book of Proverbs tells us to trust in God, and lean not unto your own understanding. Even with this biblical knowledge, we tend to forget about it when our situation gets difficult. Our own minds start working out a solution, and slowly but surely we begin to lean on our own understanding. We have to recognize when we stop counting on God to make a way and immediately take these thoughts captive. If we use our own understanding we will never make room for God to operate in our situation. Faith is key. When we show faith, God moves.
Faith is the currency we need to attain all that God has for us. Hebrews 11:6 states “But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” If we don’t diligently seek the Lord, how can we expect a reward? Does your circumstance subtly put your “diligent seeking” on the back burner? I was guilty of this. When my situation got difficult, I began to get desperate. My problem was that I wanted things to happen on my time. I prayed to God and asked Him to help me, and I expected my circumstance to change the next day. When things didn’t go my way, I got upset. I even turned from God momentarily. I had no endurance. I failed that test miserably because of bitterness and impatience. I took my eyes off of Jesus, and put it on earthly methods. Consequently, I was not able to partake in God’s blessing at the end.
Hebrews 12:2 describes Jesus as the author and finisher of our faith. This is very important to us, because it shows that we can look to Christ when we are in the thick of our tests. The situation around us will intensify and tempt us to use our own understanding and he devices. Giving in to this impulse leads to sure failure. Time, is another variable that can squeeze us even more. Pregnancies and other biological processes that are best suited when at certain ages can really put us to the test. We must look at Abraham in the bible. His promise did not come when he thought it would. His wife had been deemed barren and she was in her old age. Abraham’s faith in God, and trust in His word is what enabled him to persevere so many childless years. He did not consider his body, or the barrenness of Sarah’s womb (Romans 4). What’s encouraging for me is the fact that Sarah encouraged Abraham to have a child with another woman because she was barren. Thought he finally got child, it wasn’t the one who would continue the lineage of Israel. I say this is encouraging because, even if we go off course, God has a way of still completing His will in our lives if we return to Him and have faith.
As I write this, I am undergoing a similar test to the one I’ve failed last year. It’s been 8 long months of testing. I know exactly how to handle the situation now. Christ is the author and finisher of my faith. It’s important for me now to put pride, bitterness and my own understanding on the back burner. There is also a time crunch involved in my test, but I’m trusting God fully, all the way to the end. I don’t know how He is going to do it, but I know He will. I declare right now, in the name of Jesus, I will run the race right to the end and will claim the prize God has at the end for me. We must endure. In the words of Derek Prince; "The only way to learn how to endure, is to endure."
